MY MOTIVATION
I was motivated to commit my monthly allowances no matter how small and to begin a farm project on a low scale to better the lives of the indigents because of the rate of destitution and Early pregnancy common in this part of the world.
THE STORY OF SOME OF MY LITTLE CHILDREN
There are no schools in most of our outstations, and where there are schools, no quality education because of lack of qualified teachers, (you can’t imagine a junior WAEC student teaching primary 4, 5, and 6). As a result, most children cannot afford quality education, some drop out after primary 3 or primary school and some cannot afford education at all. Most of the children follow their parents to the farm. Some become pregnant before 14 years or are been forced into early marriage. We have cases of 13 and 14 years old girls becoming pregnant.
Providing them spiritual and pastoral guidance alone will not remedy the situation, so on my own and with the support / prayers of my brothers, I decided to take some practical steps. I have started helping ten (10) children with my small resources. We provide them with temporary accommodation, school materials, medical, food, clothing, Toiletries and so on. This is not easy at all. At the moment, the children attend government assisted primary school pending when we are able to build a school for them. We have equally made provision fo extra classes. This will help the children to upgrade since most of them are very poor academically.
These girls are picked from villages where there are no primary schools or where there are only primary one (1) to three (3). We have Christians and Muslims among them.
It is quite interesting to note that the Government of Sierra Leone where we work at the moment runs a free education system. The school fees and some books are provided by government, but there are many rural villages without schools and some with schools but without government subsidies.
